When a kid, I remember my uncle, an avid hunter, telling us one of his hunting adventures stories some place in Africa. His favorite game was big cats, tigers and lions. On this one trip, to lighten the load, he decided to carry only 12 rounds of ammo for his big bore rifle - if my memory serves me right, not knowing much about hunting rifles myself, I believe he said it was a Ruger 1H single shot chambered in .458 Lott. After about a hour trek through the bush, he spotted a beautiful-looking lion at the crest of a hill. Nervously he took aim and let it rip. Dang it, he said, I must have missed, as he saw no dead lion. About a minute later, there it was agin, as if challenging him to take his best shot, and he did. Again, he saw no dead lion. This hide and seek game continue, until he ran out of ammo, after which the lion no longer appeared.
Disgusted and disillusioned, my uncle, without any more ammo, decided to clime up the hill to see if he could at least spot the elusive lion. To his amazement and delight, he saw 12 dead lions at the far side of the hill. He was my favorite uncle.
